HAMDEN, Conn. (WTNH)-For Barbara Simpson, Monday morning began off on a sour note.

“My daughter got a phone call from one of her friends who took the school bus by and they witnessed some writing on my vehicle and we all came outside and witnessed it,” said Simpson.

Her Honda minivan covered with silver and white squirt paint, graphic pictures on almost every panel. Her car was the only one hit on Paradise Avenue but three others were vandalized at two Skiff Street and one other on Eastgate Lane.

“All of these locations are within one mile of each other so it emerges it was the same person or persons who have committed this act of vandalism,” said Captain Ronald Smith of the Hamden Police Department.

The cars on Skiff Street were sprayed with black paint, vulgar language and obscene gestures painted on them. Police say the same number three was found scrawled on many of the cars. They estimate the harm to each vehicle could be in the thousands of dollars.

“It looks like they took their time. Yes, it was very detailed messages, drawings. Um, there was a lot of detail on each of the vehicles,” said Captain Smith.

The Skiff Street lot where the cars were targeted is set back from the main road. Normally a quiet location, people who live there say they will now be keeping their eyes on their surroundings.

“I’m shocked because when I’m even coming and going from work I never see anyone here truly. I see like the same two families so I’m astonished that people even targeted this spot,” said Keenan Tschauder, a resident in the apartment sophisticated.

Back at Barbara’s she managed to eliminate some of the paint from the windows. She says they’ll leave the rest until the insurance company can get involved. She hopes this was a one time thing and the crime spree will be brief lived.

“I just hope they find the people responsible. This is a senseless act and it’s just inconveniencing everybody in the neighborhood,” said Simpson.

Police are urging residents to be vigilant and say now is a good time to turn on outdoor lighting and make sure movement detectors are working. Anyone with information is asked to contact Hamden Police.
