The $35,000 price-tag, as car-consumer website Jalponik.com points out, is for the most bare-bones version of the car.

Any options, including a different color, will bump you well over the originally asking price.

And that’s just the beginning, as Bloomberg’s Dana Hull later pointed out in a tweet: ‘So if you want a Model three in a color besides black with longer range battery, options and autopilot you are looking at $58K.’

Tesla CEO Elon Musk said Friday the Model three had over half a million advance reservations as he transferred over the very first thirty to employee buyers.

Outside Tesla’s Fremont, California factory, Musk demonstrated off the $35,000 base vehicle with a range of two hundred twenty miles on a charge that marks a departure from the company’s earlier luxury electrical cars.

Earlier this month, Musk predicted that within ten years almost all fresh cars made in the US will be autonomous, and half of those will be fully electrical vehicles.

‘China is most likely going to be ahead of that,’ the SpaceX chief said.

Musk said that within twenty years, driving a car will be like having a pony because ‘there will not be a steering wheel’.

Tesla faces major hurdles living up to the Model three hype. The 500,000 vehicles Tesla vows to produce next year are almost six times its two thousand sixteen production.

A troubled Model three launch could heighten the risks for the company, while a stable delivery of Model 3s could generate a stream of cash that would permit Tesla to avoid going again to the capital markets to fund its operations.

Tesla’s share price has surged fifty four per cent since January in anticipation of the Model three launch, and Tesla’s pricey valuation now exceeds that of traditional rivals like General Motors Co and Ford Motor Co.

A Reddit user claiming to work for robot making company Kuka posted the photos of what he says are four hundred sixty seven robots being delivered to the car-making hard’s California HQ.

SoutheastTraders forum user Mac11FA, via the Tesla subreddit, said he is a Field Service Engineer for Kuka Robotics.
