Supercar Saturdays at Mike Ward Maserati

It is nice to see a local car dealership group take part in events that not only bring the community together, but also help make the world a better place. Mike Ward has began a monthly event called Supercar Saturdays. Supercar Saturdays are held every 3rd Saturday of the month at Mike Ward’s brand fresh Maserati/Alfa Romeo/McLaren/Fiat showroom located at one thousand eight hundred fifty Lucent Ct in Highlands Ranch, CO 80129.

All makes and models of cars are welcome. Food and entertainment is provided and 100% of the food donations are donated to local charities! The local club – Highlands Ranch Hotrodders have helped to give this event series a excellent kick-off.

Should you take your car to the track?

Most people who own some type of prompt car have always desired to “see what it can do”. Of course, on the street this is NOT a good idea! So what options are there to be able to see how swift or how well your car treats at speed? Some people are indeed looking for a straight line speed that can best be learned at the local haul unwrap. Some people want to see how their car treats at speed. This is best learned at a local road racing track. Some people may want to drift their car. This also is best done at a local track.

So what options are out there to go rapid and, hopefully, be safe in the process? Warning #1 – most insurance companies will NOT cover your car during ANY type of track activity! However, there are companies out there who do provide track day insurance. Be ready to spend fairly a bit on this type of insurance. Regardless of the cost, if you are worried at all that something may happen to your car, get the insurance. Paying a duo hundred dollars vs. many thousands of dollars can sometimes make sense.

Option 1: Autocross – high or low speed courses usually setup in a large parking lot with cones to mark the course. Only one car is permitted on a timed run at a time. You contest against the clock. Best time wins. Several of these events run across the year. Cost is very inexpensive.

Option Two: Track day at a local track. Road race course or oval. This option is lightly available. Cost can run anywhere from $100 to $600 per day. The size of the track determines how swift you can go. Be ready to slice and dice with many other drivers. Be very aware of your surroundings, other drivers, the flag system, passing rules, and the decent way to drive the track.

Option Three: Haul racing – Numerous options exist for opportunities to see how quick your car is at the quarter mile. Special events, test and tune times, and renting the track are all options. Cost can be anywhere from $Trio per run, up to several thousand dollars per day to rent out the track.

Option Four: Gokarting – attempt your forearm at one of the higher-speed karting tracks. Speeds can vary, but some tracks permit you to rent karts that can go over one hundred mph. Most public tracks use electrified or gas karts that can go anywhere inbetween forty five and sixty mph. Cost can run anywhere from $15 to $60 per a set amount of laps.

If you are taking your car to the track, be sure to learn the rules, learn the track, and take it effortless until you are used to the track layout and the way your car performs at speed. Back to the formal question posed at the beginning of the article: should I take my car to the track? The response is a resounding YES!

Denver, Colorado Mecum Auction Recap 2016

Mecum Auction year #Two in Denver, Colorado – success. The crowds were amazing and the cars were incredible at the Colorado Convention Center! This was the 2nd year that Mecum Auctions determined to give the car folks in Colorado a chance to see and (maybe) buy some of the nicest cars around. We spotted everything from what we would call “less-collectible” cars, to some amazing examples of driveable metal.

We went on Saturday and arrived during the collectible auction that happens before the cars go across the block. The signs and other automotive merchandise sold quickly and at some pretty hefty prices. The cars embarked going across the block at 10am after the national anthem and what Mecum calls “its anthem” which also happens to be Thunderstruck by AC/DC. All the people on the stage and ringmen began dancing along with some of the crowd. Pretty interesting to witness!

The prices seemed to be pretty much inline with what we would expect for the types of cars suggested. So, the results are in! The top seller for the auction was an incredible one thousand nine hundred sixty three Ford Galaxie 500XL. This car sold for $170,500. We didn’t get a chance to look at it up close, but then again, we would never have expected a Galaxie to be the top seller. The Ford GT, the one thousand nine hundred fifty three Corvette, and some other cars had the chance to lightly break that record. However, those cars were not sold.

Mecum Auction – Denver, Colorado – July eight & 9, 2016

Mecum Auctions will hold its second-annual collector car auction in Denver July 8-9 at the Colorado Convention Center featuring seven hundred vehicles including vintage ‘Vettes, modern supercars and two private collections. Bidder registration is $100 in advance and $200 at the auction and includes admission for two for both auction days. General admission tickets available at the gate for $30 per person per day or $40 for a two-day pass; children twelve and junior receive complimentary admission. 2016 4th of July Fireworks Display is Official!

Thanks to an amazing turnout for the last two shows, the City of Westminster has asked Rocky Mountain Car Club to put on the 3rd annual Fireworks Car Showcase! Like last year, this event is limited to one hundred catches sight of. Last year we managed to squeeze in one hundred fifteen cars due to some added cars from some of our sponsors. If you have not attended either of the last two shows, you indeed missed out on some joy. The fireworks demonstrate put on by Westminster is second-to-none in the state! In addition to the display cars, there is a stage with live music, food, kids activities, and more.

The website: FireworksCarShow.com has all the information on the showcase and online registration is open! Our email blast sent out this morning (Four/1/16) packed forty five of the one hundred catches sight of in less than an hour! Unnecessary to say, make sure you reserve your spot early.

Driving the Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat = Smile Factor of Ten!

Let me commence out by telling that I was not expecting a chance to drive the two thousand fifteen Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat during the Rocky Mountain Driving Practice put on by our friends at the Rocky Mountain Automotive Press. I was totally expecting a long waiting list of people or, if the chance came up, a very brief drive. What happened instead was a very nice drive along with one of the SRT manufacturer reps railing shotgun.

The venue for this year’s event was nothing brief of spectacular! We drove from Denver up to Satan’s Thumb Ranch in Tabernash, Colorado. This is just north of the Winter Park area. The event had several routes mapped out to drive the vehicles on the street and on off-road course for those who were inclined to get the trucks and SUVs dirty. Aside from a nice excursion in a BF Goodrich-shod Jeep Wrangler, I spent the entire two days on the road, driving as many vehicles as I could get my forearms on.

Now for the Hellcat! This is the very first time I had a chance to drive anything from Dodge with over four hundred horsepower. Two years ago I got skunked on the chance to drive, or even rail along in the Viper. This year I dreamed to get behind the wheel of the Hellcat. Fortunately I was able to. Unnecessary to say, seven hundred seven horsepower moves down the road at a rather brisk rhythm when the accelerator pedal is shoved in a downward movability! The car makes a very nice roar while gaining speed at an amazing rate. The best part about having a factory rep with you when driving a car like this is learning all the neat tricks to making the car do what you want it to. We made utter use of the Hellcat’s launch control system to get some quick starts in the book. If you drive around the Tabernash area, you will see several sets of parallel rubber tracks on the roads. Each of these was done using launch control. The set pictured below was done with the launch set at Trio,000 RPM. According to the SRT engineers, road conditions were not optimal for a grippy embark. As you can see in the picture below, we left about forty five feet of rubber without the system stopping the wheel spin. After attempts at Two,500, Two,000, and 1,750 RPM, we concluded that the power was too much for the roads. Albeit, I am not complaining about the rubbery imprints we left on the mountain town!

The car is amazingly deceptive. Even when you stand on the gas, it takes the power and puts down with a very stable and sleek acceleration. I have driven several 600+ horsepower cars, and this behaves nicely, even with the horsepower. More incredible yet, the front and rear Brembo brakes made the stopping distances on the four thousand five hundred pound car seem truly brief. I was expecting to get the car stopped after crossing a duo of county lines. In addition to going rapid and stopping quickly, the car was able to make all the turns at the speeds I was hoping for. The Pirelli P Zero tires did a good job of sticking, yet not squeaking, around the corners and through the forms. The interior is very nice as well. It wasn’t luxurious, but it was better than I expected for a car designed to simply go prompt. The $70,000 price tag puts the value for money pretty high. That is the going rate for a fresh 460hp two thousand sixteen Corvette Stingray.

My individual take on the car is that it would be joy to drive after removing everything that says Hellcat. Eliminate all the badges and find some unsuspicious Porsches, Corvettes, Mustangs, or other swift cars and steal their money. I am indeed looking forward to a chance at driving this car at a track sometime in the near future!

Shelby American Collection Annual Party and Car Showcase

After being invited to this event for several years, we were eventually able to attend this year. Special thanks to our good friend, Muff Davis, for the invite and extra ticket. This is the annual fundraising party to benefit the day-to-day running of the Shelby American Collection Museum in Boulder, Colorado. There was good food, fine sponsors, music, lots of showcase cars, and some amazing special guests.

After taking some time to look at several truly nice cars outside the museum, we went inwards to see some truly incredible Shelby history on display. Numerous Cobra race cars, several uncommon Mustangs, lots of memorabilia, a indeed nice bounty shop, a bar, and a LeMans Ford GT40 race car that indeed steals the display. We were affected with the one thousand nine hundred sixty six Shelby GT350-S prototype supercharged Mustang. It is truly nice to see such a uncommon, one-of-a-kind car on display for all to see. The GT40 has some amazing history as well. Knowing that world-renowned drivers like Mario Andretti, AJ Foyt, Dan Gurney, Bruce McLaren, and Lucien Bianchi drove this car and its sister GT40s is indeed amazing.

Of course the Cobras in the house that drivers like Bob Bondurant, Allen Grant, and Tom Yeager drove to wins are identically awesome. On top of that, to meet and get to talk (plus get some autographs) with all three of these amazing drivers was a treat. All three collective some funny stories of their time racing for Carol Shelby. We even had a fine Mustang vs. Corvette conversation with Allen Grant.

With 300-400 people in attendance, we hope that the event was considered successful. Steve Volk, founder of the collection, and his family indeed put on a excellent event. We look forward to coming back next year!

Speed Gone Wild was a WIN!

Despite the rain making a very unwelcome appearance at times, Speed Gone Wild Weekend at Boulder County Fairgrounds in Longmont on June 5-7 was an amazing success!

Over 3o cars braved early morning rain for our first-ever driving abilities event at Colorado National Speedway. Times were good on a raw track early in the day, but got much better as it dried up for an exceptionally joy event!

Friday night, our weekend’s presenting sponsor, Longmont Ford, held a Garage Nights event at their dealership in Longmont. Good food, free beer from Left mitt Brewery and Oskar Blues Brewery made it a good evening!

Saturday morning’s Speed Gone Wild car demonstrate was a hit! We officially had over three hundred cars, trucks, and motorcycles on the grass at Boulder County Fairgounds. We had to speed up the trophies a little as a puny rain shower creeped in, but overall a fine success!

Sunday morning was the Canyonball Run Rally put on by the Northern Colorado Mustang Car Club. Seventy one cars split into two groups going opposite ways on a beautiful run to Estes Park and back.

Everything ended up at Oskar Blues Brewery in Longmont for the end of the rally and the end of weekend car display. Free lunch for participants, free beer and root beer from Oskar Blues, superb weather and a fine culmination of an amazing weekend.

2015 Fireworks Car Showcase is a GO!

RMCC had a good meeting with the City of Westminster this week and the mood in the room was good! They indeed liked how well the two thousand fourteen display went, and want us back again in 2015! We will be doing more cars, more vendors, trophies, and door prizes, plus a strong request for no rain this year!

For those who didn’t make it out last year, it rained! It rained hard! However, it all cleared up around 6pm, and the night was a Large success! We had space setup for fifty cars, and thirty seven showcased in the rain! The fireworks were outstanding on top of a excellent night. The showcase is held ON THE GRASS at Westminster City Park, right under the fireworks showcase.

Should you take your car to the track?

Most people who own some type of prompt car have always dreamed to “see what it can do”. Of course, on the street this is NOT a good idea! So what options are there to be able to see how quick or how well your car treats at speed? Some people are truly looking for a straight line speed that can best be learned at the local haul de-robe. Some people want to see how their car treats at speed. This is best learned at a local road racing track. Some people may want to drift their car. This also is best done at a local track.

So what options are out there to go swift and, hopefully, be safe in the process? Warning #1 – most insurance companies will NOT cover your car during ANY type of track activity! However, there are companies out there who do provide track day insurance. Be ready to spend fairly a bit on this type of insurance. Regardless of the cost, if you are worried at all that something may happen to your car, get the insurance. Paying a duo hundred dollars vs. many thousands of dollars can sometimes make sense.

Option Two: Track day at a local track. Road race course or oval. This option is lightly available. Cost can run anywhere from $100 to $600 per day. The size of the track determines how rapid you can go. Be ready to slice and dice with many other drivers. Be very aware of your surroundings, other drivers, the flag system, passing rules, and the decent way to drive the track.

Option Four: Gokarting – attempt your palm at one of the higher-speed karting tracks. Speeds can vary, but some tracks permit you to rent karts that can go over one hundred mph. Most public tracks use electrified or gas karts that can go anywhere inbetween forty five and sixty mph. Cost can run anywhere from $15 to $60 per a set amount of laps.

Denver, Colorado Mecum Auction Recap 2016

We went on Saturday and arrived during the collectible auction that happens before the cars go across the block. The signs and other automotive merchandise sold quickly and at some pretty hefty prices. The cars embarked going across the block at 10am after the national anthem and what Mecum calls “its anthem” which also happens to be Thunderstruck by AC/DC. All the people on the stage and ringmen embarked dancing along with some of the crowd. Pretty interesting to see!

2016 4th of July Fireworks Demonstrate is Official!

Driving the Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat = Smile Factor of Ten!

The venue for this year’s event was nothing brief of spectacular! We drove from Denver up to Satan’s Thumb Ranch in Tabernash, Colorado. This is just north of the Winter Park area. The event had several routes mapped out to drive the vehicles on the street and on off-road course for those who were inclined to get the trucks and SUVs dirty. Aside from a nice journey in a BF Goodrich-shod Jeep Wrangler, I spent the entire two days on the road, driving as many vehicles as I could get my mitts on.

Now for the Hellcat! This is the very first time I had a chance to drive anything from Dodge with over four hundred horsepower. Two years ago I got skunked on the chance to drive, or even rail along in the Viper. This year I wished to get behind the wheel of the Hellcat. Fortunately I was able to. Unnecessary to say, seven hundred seven horsepower moves down the road at a rather brisk tempo when the accelerator pedal is shoved in a downward mobility! The car makes a very nice roar while gaining speed at an amazing rate. The best part about having a factory rep with you when driving a car like this is learning all the neat tricks to making the car do what you want it to. We made total use of the Hellcat’s launch control system to get some quick starts in the book. If you drive around the Tabernash area, you will see several sets of parallel rubber tracks on the roads. Each of these was done using launch control. The set pictured below was done with the launch set at Three,000 RPM. According to the SRT engineers, road conditions were not optimal for a grippy embark. As you can see in the picture below, we left about forty five feet of rubber without the system stopping the wheel spin. After attempts at Two,500, Two,000, and 1,750 RPM, we concluded that the power was too much for the roads. Albeit, I am not complaining about the rubbery imprints we left on the mountain town!

The car is amazingly deceptive. Even when you stand on the gas, it takes the power and puts down with a very stable and slick acceleration. I have driven several 600+ horsepower cars, and this behaves nicely, even with the horsepower. More amazing yet, the front and rear Brembo brakes made the stopping distances on the four thousand five hundred pound car seem truly brief. I was expecting to get the car stopped after crossing a duo of county lines. In addition to going quick and stopping quickly, the car was able to make all the turns at the speeds I was hoping for. The Pirelli P Zero tires did a fine job of sticking, yet not squeaking, around the corners and through the forms. The interior is very nice as well. It wasn’t luxurious, but it was better than I expected for a car designed to simply go swift. The $70,000 price tag puts the value for money pretty high. That is the going rate for a fresh 460hp two thousand sixteen Corvette Stingray.

My private take on the car is that it would be joy to drive after removing everything that says Hellcat. Liquidate all the badges and find some unsuspicious Porsches, Corvettes, Mustangs, or other quick cars and steal their money. I am indeed looking forward to a chance at driving this car at a track sometime in the near future!

Shelby American Collection Annual Party and Car Demonstrate

After being invited to this event for several years, we were ultimately able to attend this year. Special thanks to our good friend, Muff Davis, for the invite and extra ticket. This is the annual fundraising party to benefit the day-to-day running of the Shelby American Collection Museum in Boulder, Colorado. There was good food, excellent sponsors, music, lots of display cars, and some amazing special guests.

After taking some time to look at several indeed nice cars outside the museum, we went inwards to see some truly incredible Shelby history on display. Numerous Cobra race cars, several infrequent Mustangs, lots of memorabilia, a indeed nice bounty shop, a bar, and a LeMans Ford GT40 race car that indeed steals the demonstrate. We were struck with the one thousand nine hundred sixty six Shelby GT350-S prototype supercharged Mustang. It is truly nice to see such a uncommon, one-of-a-kind car on display for all to see. The GT40 has some amazing history as well. Knowing that world-renowned drivers like Mario Andretti, AJ Foyt, Dan Gurney, Bruce McLaren, and Lucien Bianchi drove this car and its sister GT40s is truly amazing.

Of course the Cobras in the house that drivers like Bob Bondurant, Allen Grant, and Tom Yeager drove to wins are identically incredible. On top of that, to meet and get to talk (plus get some autographs) with all three of these amazing drivers was a treat. All three collective some funny stories of their time racing for Carol Shelby. We even had a fine Mustang vs. Corvette conversation with Allen Grant.

Speed Gone Wild was a WIN!

Despite the rain making a very unwelcome appearance at times, Speed Gone Wild Weekend at Boulder County Fairgrounds in Longmont on June 5-7 was an amazing success!

Saturday morning’s Speed Gone Wild car demonstrate was a hit! We officially had over three hundred cars, trucks, and motorcycles on the grass at Boulder County Fairgounds. We had to speed up the trophies a little as a petite rain shower creeped in, but overall a fine success!

Sunday morning was the Canyonball Run Rally put on by the Northern Colorado Mustang Car Club. Seventy one cars split into two groups going opposite ways on a beautiful run to Estes Park and back.

Everything ended up at Oskar Blues Brewery in Longmont for the end of the rally and the end of weekend car demonstrate. Free lunch for participants, free beer and root beer from Oskar Blues, excellent weather and a fine culmination of an amazing weekend.

2015 Fireworks Car Display is a GO!

For those who didn’t make it out last year, it rained! It rained hard! However, it all cleared up around 6pm, and the night was a Enormous success! We had space setup for fifty cars, and thirty seven demonstrated in the rain! The fireworks were outstanding on top of a superb night. The demonstrate is held ON THE GRASS at Westminster City Park, right under the fireworks display.

Mecum Auction year #Two in Denver, Colorado – success. The crowds were amazing and the cars were incredible at the Colorado Convention Center! This was the 2nd year that Mecum Auctions determined to give the car folks in Colorado a chance to see and (maybe) buy some of the nicest cars around. We eyed everything from what we would call “less-collectible” cars, to some amazing examples of driveable metal.

2016 4th of July Fireworks Showcase is Official!

Thanks to an amazing turnout for the last two shows, the City of Westminster has asked Rocky Mountain Car Club to put on the 3rd annual Fireworks Car Display! Like last year, this event is limited to one hundred catches sight of. Last year we managed to squeeze in one hundred fifteen cars due to some added cars from some of our sponsors. If you have not attended either of the last two shows, you indeed missed out on some joy. The fireworks demonstrate put on by Westminster is second-to-none in the state! In addition to the showcase cars, there is a stage with live music, food, kids activities, and more.

Over 3o cars braved early morning rain for our first-ever driving abilities event at Colorado National Speedway. Times were good on a moist track early in the day, but got much better as it dried up for an amazingly joy event!

After attempts at Two,500, Two,000, and 1,750 RPM, we concluded that the power was too much for the roads. Albeit, I am not complaining about the rubbery imprints we left on the mountain town!

The car is amazingly deceptive. Even when you stand on the gas, it takes the power and puts down with a very stable and slick acceleration. I have driven several 600+ horsepower cars, and this behaves nicely, even with the horsepower. More exceptional yet, the front and rear Brembo brakes made the stopping distances on the four thousand five hundred pound car seem truly brief. I was expecting to get the car stopped after crossing a duo of county lines. In addition to going rapid and stopping quickly, the car was able to make all the turns at the speeds I was hoping for. The Pirelli P Zero tires did a superb job of sticking, yet not squeaking, around the corners and through the forms. The interior is very nice as well. It wasn’t luxurious, but it was better than I expected for a car designed to simply go prompt. The $70,000 price tag puts the value for money pretty high. That is the going rate for a fresh 460hp two thousand sixteen Corvette Stingray.

My individual take on the car is that it would be joy to drive after removing everything that says Hellcat. Eliminate all the badges and find some unaware Porsches, Corvettes, Mustangs, or other quick cars and steal their money. I am truly looking forward to a chance at driving this car at a track sometime in the near future!

Shelby American Collection Annual Party and Car Showcase

After taking some time to look at several indeed nice cars outside the museum, we went inwards to see some truly incredible Shelby history on display. Numerous Cobra race cars, several uncommon Mustangs, lots of memorabilia, a truly nice bounty shop, a bar, and a LeMans Ford GT40 race car that truly steals the display. We were affected with the one thousand nine hundred sixty six Shelby GT350-S prototype supercharged Mustang. It is indeed nice to see such a uncommon, one-of-a-kind car on display for all to see. The GT40 has some amazing history as well. Knowing that world-renowned drivers like Mario Andretti, AJ Foyt, Dan Gurney, Bruce McLaren, and Lucien Bianchi drove this car and its sister GT40s is indeed astounding.

Of course the Cobras in the house that drivers like Bob Bondurant, Allen Grant, and Tom Yeager drove to wins are identically amazing. On top of that, to meet and get to talk (plus get some autographs) with all three of these amazing drivers was a treat. All three collective some funny stories of their time racing for Carol Shelby. We even had a fine Mustang vs. Corvette conversation with Allen Grant.

With 300-400 people in attendance, we hope that the event was considered successful. Steve Volk, founder of the collection, and his family indeed put on a fine event. We look forward to coming back next year!

Speed Gone Wild was a WIN!

Despite the rain making a very unwelcome appearance at times, Speed Gone Wild Weekend at Boulder County Fairgrounds in Longmont on June 5-7 was an amazing success!

Friday night, our weekend’s presenting sponsor, Longmont Ford, held a Garage Nights event at their dealership in Longmont. Good food, free beer from Left forearm Brewery and Oskar Blues Brewery made it a fine evening!

Sunday morning was the Canyonball Run Rally put on by the Northern Colorado Mustang Car Club. Seventy one cars split into two groups going opposite ways on a beautiful run to Estes Park and back.

Everything ended up at Oskar Blues Brewery in Longmont for the end of the rally and the end of weekend car display. Free lunch for participants, free beer and root beer from Oskar Blues, good weather and a good culmination of an amazing weekend.

2015 Fireworks Car Demonstrate is a GO!

RMCC had a excellent meeting with the City of Westminster this week and the mood in the room was good! They indeed liked how well the two thousand fourteen showcase went, and want us back again in 2015! We will be doing more cars, more vendors, trophies, and door prizes, plus a strong request for no rain this year!

For those who didn’t make it out last year, it rained! It rained hard! However, it all cleared up around 6pm, and the night was a Yam-sized success! We had space setup for fifty cars, and thirty seven demonstrated in the rain! The fireworks were outstanding on top of a superb night. The showcase is held ON THE GRASS at Westminster City Park, right under the fireworks demonstrate.
