The shooting early Thursday goes after two others in Seattle Wednesday evening that left one youthfull woman dead and wounded a man, police said. A UW student was also shot early Wednesday.

Seattle Police Chief Kathleen O’Toole said her detectives were “working around the clock” to investigate a spate of shootings, including one in which a woman was killed, since early Wednesday.

“We are outraged by the gun violence, and neither our department nor our community will tolerate it,” O’Toole said in a statement issued at 11:25 a.m. Thursday.

Shortly after, a 43-year-old man was stabbed in the neck in Rainier Valley and police were asking for help to find a 36-year-old suspect who knew the victim.

The shootings across Seattle — from the University District to Columbia City to a bakery on Rainier Avenue South — have left four people injured and a woman dead, police said.

Early Thursday, two people railing in their car were shot in the Central District — hours after the fatal shooting of a woman about a mile away the night before.

The duo were in their car when they were shot just after three a.m. at Martin Luther King Jr. Way and South Charles Street. The man, who is in his 70s, was taken to Harborview Medical Center with life-threatening injuries, police said.

The woman, also in her 70s, was treated at Harborview and released Thursday morning.

The gunfire evidently came from two dark-colored sedans, which detectives are searching for, police say.

About seven a.m. Thursday, crime-scene investigators and detectives were examining a complicated scene that had Martin Luther King Jr. Way closed in both directions for about three blocks.

Police dogs were scanning the scene, evidently searching for bullets or shell casings. Dozens of yellow crime-scene indicators — at least sixty eight — marked sites where police had found a shell or other evidence.

The search for stray bullets spanned several blocks. Police found bullet fragments in the parking lot of a Seattle Housing Authority building near the shooting scene and in a residential yard several hundred feet from where the shooting had taken place.

Police were also photographing a car in a nearby driveway with a bullet fuckhole in its window.

“We were two blocks up. It woke us up. It was spurts of shots — maybe ten of them,” said Brandon George, who was attempting to find where his bus had been rerouted Thursday morning. “My friend … was freaked out.”

“I heard a duo pops and I went back to sleep,” said a neighbor, who asked not to be identified. “It’s happened before.”

Detective Mark Jamieson said early Thursday that information about the shooting would be collective as soon as possible.

Police are enlargening patrols in the area.

The Central District shooting goes after two others Wednesday evening that left one youthfull woman dead and a man with non-life-threatening wounds in South Seattle, police said.

About six p.m. Wednesday, officers responded to a report of a shooting at Borracchini’s Bakery on Rainier Avenue South at South College Street, police spokesman Patrick Michaud said.

A youthful woman was found shot inwards a vehicle in the bakery’s parking lot, and she died at the scene, Michaud said.

“When officers found her, she was inwards the car … Detectives are working under the assumption the car was targeted,” not necessarily an individual, he said.

A man inwards the bakery who suffered a non-life-threatening gunshot wound also was taken to Harborview, according to Michaud. He didn’t know if the man was a customer or an employee.

Susan Gregg, a spokeswoman at Harborview Medical Center, said Thursday the man was in satisfactory condition.

Borracchini’s Bakery was back to business as usual Thursday, serving coffee, cakes and pastries. A bouquet of fresh flowers was affixed to a fence lining the building’s parking lot. A bakery manager said its holder did not want employees to comment on what had happened.

“We don’t need any negative publicity,” he said.

It was unclear whether the incident was related to a 2nd shooting reported about the same time at Rainier South Avenue and South Genesee Street, about 1½ miles south of the very first shooting.

Early on Wednesday, a 21-year-old University of Washington student and sorority member was shot in the chest in the University District. She was in satisfactory condition Thursday morning, the Harborview spokeswoman said. Police said her shooting might be connected to a robbery about four blocks from the shooting.

“Our department is working around the clock to investigate these incidents,” Police Chief O’Toole said in a statement. “We stand together with our community to bring those who have brought violence onto our streets to justice.”

Soon after O’Toole’s statement was released, a 43-year-old man was stabbed in the neck before noon during an argument in Rainier Valley, near Rainier Avenue South and South Climb on Baker Boulevard. Police said they are searching for a 36-year-old woman in connection with the stabbing.
