Nine people were arrested in a string of armed robberies and carjackings committed last week, the Fresh Orleans Police Department announced Wednesday (June 6). All but one of the nine people arrested are seventeen or junior, authorities said.
“We told you we would catch you and now we’ve delivered on our promise,” Superintendent Michael Harrison said at a press conference held at NOPD headquarters. “This is not the end. We are just beginning and let me tell you we are not playing with you. We are coming after the rest of you and we are not going to stop until all of you are caught and you pay for the crimes you committed against our citizens.”
Officers in the two nd District arrested four people, three seventeen and junior, in connection with an armed robbery and four carjackings that occurred inbetween June one and June Four, Harrison said. One of these crimes included the June one carjacking of K.C. O’Rorke, a member of Flow Tribe, a local funk and rock band. O’Rorke and his gf were leaving her house in Broadmoor around ten p.m. to get ice fluid when he said two youthfull boys inbetween the ages of fifteen and seventeen hopped out of an SUV, pointed a gun at him, then stole his car.
Four days later, O’Rorke posted on his Facebook page that his car was recovered, but not the two trumpets, valued at a total of $Four,000, which were in the backseat.
As part of the investigation, police recovered three stolen vehicles, including O’Rorke’s, and executed two search warrants during which officers found three firearms and a BB gun they believe were used in the commission of these crimes, Harrison said.
Harrison identified brothers Roland Fields, 23, and Rannell Fields, 17, as two of the four people arrested.
Despite his age, the Times-Picayune is identifying Rannell Fields because he has been accused of numerous crimes of violence.
Roland Fields was booked with possession of stolen property, in addition to an outstanding warrant for domestic manhandle battery and false imprisonment, according to court documents. His brother Rannell Fields was booked with five counts of armed robbery. Bond information was not instantaneously available for either person.
Rannell Fields was previously arrested April five and booked with illegal carrying of weapons, possession of a firearm with obliterated serial numbers, and possession of a firearm at school. His bond was set at $15,000, which he posted through Blair’s Bail Bonds April 9, according to court documents.
The Fields’ brothers’ father, Randy Brown, said by phone Wednesday that he worried about the allegations made against his sons.
“I’m not going to defend them if they’re wrong,” said Brown, 52. “But I don’t believe it.”
Brown said he questioned whether police had the right people responsible, but also added about his sons, “If you did something you shouldn’t have done, you’re going to pay for it.”
One of the two arrested juveniles was booked with four counts of armed robbery while the other was booked with five counts of armed robbery, said Harrison. He did not identify them because of their ages. Two extra people are sought for questioning as persons of interest, however they are not “desired” at this time, police said.
Officers in the one st District arrested four juveniles in connection with three armed robberies last week. They arrested a fifth juvenile accused of an armed robbery in a separate incident, Harrison said.
Harrison said the large number of juveniles allegedly involved with these crimes indicates they are becoming “enormously brazen.”
“What we know is that there are a number of juveniles who have committed these violent acts before and are out in a position to commit them again. They’ve become emboldened but we’re not playing with them. This is grown-man behavior so we are going to come after them for the violent criminals they are and we’re going to make sure we protect the citizens of Fresh Orleans.”
